Celebrating 30 Years ...
For three decades The Suzuki-Orff School of Music has earned an established presence in Chicago's music education community. Launched in 1981 in the shadows of the Cabrini-Green Housing Project we began teaching fifteen families of diverse cultural backgrounds. Suzuki-Orff has maintained our mission to make quality music education available to all children and families regardless of the environmental, economic, or cultural challenges they may face.
To ensure a well-rounded music education, the Suzuki-Orff School of Music integrates the Orff method with Suzuki instruction through a sequential, age-appropriate program to develop traditional musicianship skills simultaneously with the "mother tongue" imitative approach to learning.
Our onsite programs include:
- BabySTEPS, our early childhood program for chidren ages 6 months to 4-1/2 years;
-
Orff classes, where children explore beat, rhythm, and pitch through interactive exercises;
-
Private and group instrumental instruction on violin, viola, cello, flute, piano, guitar, and voice;
- Musicianship group instruction; and
- A variety of elective music classes.
In 2010 we established our first satellite location at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, where for three days per week, we bring BabySTEPS directly to the community in addition to our full program at our main location at 1148 West Chicago Avenue.
